Rugby journal joins international cast of nominees

eric joined a truly international cast when it was shortlisted twice in the Stack Awards for its ground-breaking journal, Rugby.

The double award shortlisting came on the same day as eric announced its arrival into the CMA Awards when its Prop Star campaign for Rhino was shortlisted for best B2B campaign.

Rugby joined the contenders for Editor of the Year and Best Original Non-Fiction for its article on Verity Smith, a transgender rugby player fighting for acceptance both on and off the field. With judges looking for ‘storytelling that informs and engages the reader with a distinctive editorial voice’, the story of Verity, which was picked up by CNN, The Daily Mail and The Sun, put Rugby in the company of titles from New York, Berlin, North Carolina and Berkeley as the contenders.

For Editor of the Year, judges were again looking for ‘original editorial vision’, paying particular attention to ‘long form writing’, and as such Alex Mead, eric’s content director who edits Rugby, was placed alongside editors from Bucharest, New York, Chicago, Copenhagen and San Francisco.

eric’s creative director Simon Campbell, said of the nominations for Rugby: “We’re really proud of Rugby, not only as a journal, but as a great example of eric’s storytelling – it’s at the heart of everything we do. The field in the Stack Awards is genuinely world-class so we’re in great company and really proud to have been shortlisted in two categories.”

The fourth issue is due out later this month, find out more or subscribe to Rugby journal here.
