Oxford University RFC’s 150th Anniversary book

The great and the good gather for Oxford University RFC

Oxford University RFC’s 150th Anniversary book brings together the great and the good that have played rugby for the world-famous university club.

Rugby World Cup winner David Kirk, ex-England Captain Sue Day, Lord Butler, the former private secretary to four British Prime Ministers, the founder of women’s rugby at Oxford Heather Lawrence, ex-Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Princess Alexandra Obolensky (descendant of Prince Obolensky) are among those telling their stories in the coffee-table hardback book celebrating 150 years of rugby at Oxford University.

We wanted the book to be full of captivating stories

“We wanted the book to be full of captivating stories that bring to life the characters and incredibly talented men and women that have played for Oxford at all levels,” explains Tim Stevens, Oxford University RFC General Manager. “We’ve spoken to Olympians such as Tom Mitchell, rugby legends like Joe Roff and Nick Mallett, women’s internationals Victoria Blakeborough (Scotland) and Karen Jones (England) and unique characters such as General Pete Dawkins who joined us as an American Football star and ended up being a pioneer in rugby too.”

Produced by the team behind the acclaimed quarterly journal, Rugby, Oxford University RFC’s 150th Anniversary book covers the great tours, the great victories, and the players, coaches and even the groundsman who made them happen.

Varsity Match and OURFC Sponsors Rhino Rugby are also sponsoring the Anniversary book.  Reg Clark,  Rhino CEO and Oxford Blue commented: “We wanted this to be a commemorative book that’s as much about the future as it is the past, so it was important to tell the stories of modern players such as Tom Mitchell, Sue Day and John Carter, as well as the famed heroes of the early days such as Prince Obolensky and Ronald Poulton-Palmer.”

A section of the book is dedicated to photographs from the private collections of players from all levels of Oxford from Cuppers to Greyhounds and Panthers to Blues – both men and women.

The book is now available for pre-sale at the reduced price of £40 (RRP £45), via https://bit.ly/2lRYcO7
